BIO

Ian Gilbert, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Dundee, is an exceptional medicinal chemist dedicated to tackling neglected tropical diseases. As head of chemistry of the University of Dundee Drug Discovery Unit, he led the teams that have discovered several potential new drugs for infectious diseases, malaria and visceral leishmaniasis redefining how drug discovery is conducted for neglected tropical diseases. Professor Gilbert has demonstrated impressive foresight, innovation and leadership, which has contributed to Dundee being named the world's most influential pharmaceuticals research institution. Currently he is pursuing capacity building for drug discovery in several low- and middle-income countries.
